In 1994, my (Anke’s) health was not good. I had suffered from a life time of digestive issues that included ulcers and IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). My symptoms were so debilitating, that I was unable to enjoy all of the active outdoor things that I loved. I had no energy, my stomach felt raw, and many of the symptoms were very embarrassing. I had tried all the medical treatments and instead of getting better continued to get worse. A dear friend of mine asked if I would join her at a nutrition meeting, I had not yet explored any alternative options and was open to the idea. I was introduced to Shaklee, and started taking alfalfa and Vita Lea (their multi). Within two weeks I was feeling better, and able to eat a wider variety of foods, where before I was limited to what I could tolerate which wasn’t much. Within a few months I felt better than I ever had in my life; I had more energy, was sleeping better, and most of all my stomach and digestive system were healing, I was hooked!

Fast forward a few years (like 9 years) and I was pregnant with my son. At the time I was working in a corporate job that demanded 50-70 hours per week, and was very high stress. Since I was nearing 40 with the birth of my first and only child, I did not want to continue to work long, stressful hours and give him to someone else to watch the majority of each day, since both my husband I worked full time. I decided to stay home and start a business with Shaklee, the company that had made such a difference in my health. It was a risk going from a high 5 figure income to less, but it was more important for me to be home with my son.

Fast forward another 10 years, and my Shaklee income was able to replace my corporate income, as well as allow me to pursue my passion with horses. I was able to be home with my son and be there for all the firsts, seconds and more! During that time we had many ups and downs, but I was able to stay optimistic and positive by thinking “Forward and Up”. That phrase came about while I was re-training my horse Murphey, who was given to me because he bucked, reared and ran off with the rider…so of course I said I’d take him! After 3 years of hard work with Murphey, we were riding “Forward and Up”, which meant that we had a relationship built on trust and understanding, and that instead of moving “Up and Down” like bucking, we were moving “Forward and Up” and progressing. This phrase stuck with me as I continued to build my Shaklee business which also allowed me to pursue my passion of working with horses and their people. Without Shaklee, I would never have been able to afford to do this.

After building a successful horse teaching and training business, I knew that I could also build my part time Shaklee business even bigger; to where it is my retirement income and my son’s college education fund and so much more. Through all the years of building this business, I have continued to take the supplements and use most of the products, which has allowed my health to continue to flourish, protect the environment, and be as strong in my 50’s as I was in my 30’s. I love my work with horses, but really, my passion is about building relationships with trust, honor and authenticity. I am blessed to be able to fulfill my passion with both horses and with people, and to help others feel their best physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. When I started my business I was helping other people like me, who had health issues or who were looking for better health solutions. Along the way I realized that helping people and sharing their joy as they gained better health was really where my passion lies. If they are also involved with horses, it’s a little bonus good for sharing! Who knew that back in 1994, when I took that first little alfalfa pill, that it would change the course of my life and so many others for the better!
